On Thursday, June 12, 2025, members of the Boston Police Drug Control Unit, working in collaboration with the Norfolk County Police Anti-Crime Task Force and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), arrested 32-year-old Rafael Mercedes of Randolph, Massachusetts, in connection with an ongoing fentanyl distribution investigation. The arrest follows a comprehensive and lengthy investigation into large-scale narcotics trafficking activity.
Pursuant to multiple search warrants, investigators executed a search of a storage unit located at 121 Homestead Street in Dorchester, which was linked to Mercedes. The search resulted in the recovery of numerous illegal narcotics, firearms, and related paraphernalia, including:
- One plastic bag containing tan powder, one containing pink powder, and one containing white powder located inside a box.
- One plastic bag containing a white rock substance and additional loose white rock substance located on a shelf.
- One plastic bag containing tan powder and one containing pink powder located on a shelf.
- One black .357 Magnum revolver recovered from a blue suitcase.
- A box containing 44 live rounds of .38 Special ammunition and a separate box containing 41 live rounds of .357 Magnum ammunition, both located inside the suitcase.
- A Porsche key fob located within the same suitcase.
- Additional evidence including personal documents bearing Rafael Mercedes’ name, an undisclosed amount of U.S. Currency, multiple digital scales, numerous cut plastic baggies, and other drug packaging materials.
The seized fentanyl has a total weight of approximately 115.5 grams.
As a result of the investigation, Rafael Mercedes was placed under arrest and is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court on the following charges:
- Trafficking Class A Substance (Fentanyl) Over 100 Grams;
- Possession with Intent to Distribute Class B Substance (Cocaine);
- Possession with Intent to Distribute Class B Substance (Crack Cocaine);
- Unlawful Possession of a Firearm;
- Unlawful Possession of Ammunition.
