Man Arrested in Mattapan After Officers Witness Assault and Recover Illegal Firearm

On Sunday, May 4, 2025, Officers assigned to District B-3 (Mattapan) arrested 39-year-old Anthony Hamilton of Mattapan on multiple charges, including firearm and assault-related offenses, after observing him commit an indecent assault in the area of Blue Hill Avenue and Fairway Street.

At approximately 5:38 PM, officers were on patrol traveling on Blue Hill Avenue toward Fairway Street when they observed a man, later identified as Hamilton, walking onto Fairway Street while wearing a fanny pack across his chest. As officers continued to observe him, they witnessed Hamilton grab the buttocks of an unsuspecting female passerby with his right hand. The victim appeared visibly shocked by the unprovoked contact, prompting Officers to approach Hamilton.

As Officers exited their vehicle to investigate, another male approached and reported that his girlfriend had also been assaulted by Hamilton. Officers attempted to detain the suspect, but Hamilton ignored their commands and began to violently resist arrest. Additional units were requested, and Officers were ultimately able to gain control of the suspect and place him in handcuffs.

During the struggle, Officers removed the fanny pack from Hamilton’s person and conducted a frisk of the bag, which revealed a firearm inside. Hamilton continued to resist, kick, and fight as officers attempted to secure him in a marked cruiser. Additional restraints were applied, and the suspect was placed in the rear of a patrol wagon for transport to District B-3 without further incident.

District B-3 Detectives responded and determined the firearm to be a black Smith & Wesson 9mm semi-automatic handgun. The magazine, which had a capacity of 10 rounds, contained six live 9mm rounds, with one additional round chambered.

Anthony Hamilton was placed under arrest and is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court on the following charges:

  • Possession of a Firearm with a Defaced Serial Number
  • Unlawful Possession of a Firearm
  • Unlawful Possession of Ammunition
  • Carrying a Loaded Firearm Without a License
  • Indecent Assault and Battery on a Person 14 or Older
  • Resisting Arrest
