Boston Police Celebrates International Women’s Day 2025

Happy International Women’s Day! Today, we celebrate the remarkable contributions and achievements of women especially in law enforcement, including those in the Boston Police Department and across the nation. We honor the trailblazers who have paved the way for women in policing and are proud that the Boston Police Department is surpassing the national average for women in our force and leadership roles.

Recruiting and retaining women officers is a priority for us at BPD. We are committed to reflecting the communities we serve.

International Women’s Day, celebrated every year on March 8th, not only allows us to express our gratitude to these dedicated officers but also serves as a platform for advocating stronger female representation in law enforcement. In 2023, Mayor Wu and Police Commissioner Cox signed the 30×30 Pledge, a national initiative aiming for 30% of recruits to be women by 2030. We’re excited for the opportunities that lie ahead for women in policing here at BPD.
