Shot Spotter Activation Leads to a Recovery of a Firearm

At about 12:14 AM, on Monday, January 20, 2025, officers assigned to District B-2 (Roxbury) arrested Tyreem Horton, 30, of Dorchester, on firearm charges.

Officers responded to the area of 20 Magnolia Street for a Shot Spotter activation. Officers began to search the area for any victims, witnesses, suspects or evidence of a crime. While responding to the scene, officers observed a male walking towards them from Alexander Street. Officers noticed that the suspect began to walk at a fast pace, and kept both his hands in his front coat pockets.

As officers exited their marked cruiser, the suspect immediately turned around and began to run from the area. Officers notified Boston Police Operations of a foot chase and description of the suspect.

Officers were able to stop the suspect, and a struggle ensued. Officers gave multiple verbal commands for the suspect to stop resisting. The suspect continued to attempt to bring his hands to the front of his body.

Officers were able to safely place the suspect into handcuffs, and recovered a firearm from his right front coat pocket. The firearm was later determined to be a stolen Glock 23 with nine rounds in a magazine capable of holding thirteen rounds. Officers observed that a live round was stuck in the ejection port of the firearm.

Horton was placed under arrest and charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm 2nd Offense, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Unlawful Possession of a Large Capacity Firearm, Receiving Stolen Property, and Resisting Arrest. He is expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court.

Officers also determined that the suspect had an active warrant out of Norfolk Superior Court for Distribution of Class B, Possession with Intent to Distribute Class B, Possession with Intent to Distribute Class E, and Conspiracy to Violate Drug Laws.
