Today at the Boston Firefighters Credit Union with BPD Commissioner Cox and members of the Detectives Benevolent Society joined the Credit Union CEO and Board of Directors for a check presentation devoted to Officer Wellness.
Six years ago after the deaths of seven active-duty Boston Police Officers that year, the leadership of the Boston Police Detectives Benevolent Society reached out to medical experts for guidance to prevent further deaths. This close collaboration has led to more than 600 Boston Police Officers being confidentially screened for early detection and prevention of cardiovascular diseases and cancer.
These scans have had a tremendous impact on the department from the promotion of healthy lifestyle changes and better self-care to numerous life-preserving cardiovascular interventions and successful cancer treatments.
