At about 8:10 PM, on Friday, July 12, 2024, members of the Youth Violence Strike Force arrested Kelvin Ortiz-Guerrero, 25, of Dorchester, on firearm and drug charges.
Officers were on patrol in the area of Blue Hill Avenue and Talbot Avenue when they observed a motor vehicle without an inspection sticker. Officers observed the vehicle making improper lane changes and weaving through traffic.
At this time, officers activated their cruiser’s emergency lights and sirens to initiate a traffic stop. Officers made contact with the occupants of the vehicle and observed both to be extremely nervous. The operator of the vehicle was unable to answer basic questions, and was sweating profusely. The passenger rolled his window down half way, and he too could not answer questions on where they were going. Officers also observed the passenger to switch his seating position to have his knee above the window panel.
After further investigation, officers requested the occupants to exit the vehicle. Officers conducted a pat frisk of the motor vehicle and inside they recovered a firearm. The firearm was later determined to be a Springfield Hellcat with twelve rounds in the magazine and the serial number was obliterated. Officers continued to search the vehicle and recovered five bags containing fentanyl, a scale, and one live round of ammunition.
Ortiz-Guerrero was placed under arrest and charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Unlawful Possession of a Large Capacity Feeding Device, Defacement of a Firearm Serial Number, and Trafficking of Class A. He is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.
