Firearm Recovered After a Traffic Stop in Dorchester

At about 10:50 PM, on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, officers assigned to District B-2 (Roxbury) arrested Marvin Lafontant, 36, of Roslindale, on firearm charges.

Officers were on patrol in the area of Columbia Road and Dudley Street when they observed a motor vehicle operating at a high rate of speed. At this time, officers activated their marked cruiser’s emergency lights and sirens to initiate a traffic stop. Officers were able to safely stop the vehicle in the area of 4 Half Moon Street.

Officers requested the operator’s license and registration, but he was unable to provide all the documentation. Officers observed the operator’s hands to be shaking and trembling. After further investigation, officers requested the operator to exit the vehicle.

As officers attempted to conduct a pat frisk of the suspect, he pushed officers in an attempt to flee. The suspect ran from officers, but was quickly stopped and a violent struggle ensued. Officers demanded the suspect multiple times to stop resisting, but he continued to reach for an unknown object in his waistband.

Officers were able to place the suspect into handcuffs, and recovered a firearm inside a sock, from the suspect’s groin area. The firearm was later determined to be a Smith & Wesson M&P BodyGuard with one round in the chamber and five rounds in the magazine. The firearm also had an obliterated serial number.

Lafontant was placed under arrest and charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, defacement of a firearm serial number, two counts of assault and battery on a police officer, and resisting arrest. He is expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court.
