At about 10:04 PM, on Friday, May 10, 2024, members of the Youth Violence Strike Force arrested Giovanni Aleo, 21, of Everett, on firearm charges.
Officers were on patrol in the area of 2721 Washington Street due to a recent shot spotter activation and a 911 caller stating he heard gunshots in the area. Officers were searching the area for possible victims, suspects, and witnesses of the crime.
As officers were canvassing the area, they observed a male walking away from the direction of the shot spotter activation. Officers exited their cruiser to speak with the individual about the shots fired in the area. When officers approached the suspects, he turned away and began to run.
A foot pursuit ensued, and officers immediately observed the suspect to be holding a firearm in his left hand. Officers made multiple demands for the suspect to drop the gun, who then threw the firearm into Washington Street. Officers were able to stop the suspect and place him into handcuffs in the area of Washington Street and Dale Street.
The firearm was later determined to be a Smith and Wesson MP with one round in the chamber and seventeen rounds in the magazine. The firearm’s serial number was also obliterated.
Aleo was placed under arrest and charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, unlawful possession of a large capacity feeding device, and defacement of a firearm serial number. He is expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court.
