Women’s History Month 2024

As we kick off Women’s History Month, we salute the women of the Boston Police Department and celebrate the 30 X 30 Initiative.

Last summer, Commissioner Cox was joined by Mayor Wu and representatives from MAWLE (Massachusetts Association of Women in Law Enforcement) to sign onto the 30 X 30 Pledge. It is a national initiative to have 30% of police department’s recruits be women by the year 2030.

The national average of women in police departments currently is 13%.

BPD is working to focus recruitment efforts toward making our Department better reflect those we serve.

The last class to graduate from the BPD Academy: was 74% Men – 26% Women

These numbers are encouraging, and want to consistently support their growth.

This month we will follow the history and many accomplishments of women in the BPD, stay tuned for more!
