Around 11:30 PM on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, officers from District A-1 (Downtown) apprehended James Lynn Schaff, 57, of Cambridge, on charges of Breaking and Entering.
The incident unfolded when officers responded to reports of a breaking and entering at 103 Charles Street. While at the scene, they were informed via dispatch that the suspect, dressed in a dark-colored jacket, had smashed a window of a business and fled. Shortly after, another call came in reporting an alarm at Thieves Next Door Jewelry Store on 53 Charles St, indicating a person was inside. Upon arrival, officers found broken glass and a brick on the steps but no suspect inside the store.
Continuing their search, officers noticed the slightly ajar front door of a nearby business at 15 Charles St. Upon investigation, they heard noises coming from inside. Upon entering, they discovered Schaff holding a brick, which he promptly dropped upon seeing the officers. Schaff was then arrested, and a search revealed several stolen jewelry items in his possession.
Schaff faces charges including Breaking and Entering at night, destruction of property, and Common and Notorious Thief. He is scheduled to appear for arraignment at Boston Municipal Court.
