At about 1:45 on, Wednesday, February 21, 2024, officers assigned to District B-2 (Roxbury) arrested Travin Parara, 20, of Mattapan, on firearm related charges.
Officers were on patrol on Bird Street heading towards Columbia Road when they observed a motor vehicle operating at a high rate of speed. Officers activated their emergency lights and sirens and were able to stop the vehicle in the area of Columbia Road and Pond Street.
Officers made contact with the occupants, and observed one of the passengers to not be wearing his seatbelt. Officers requested the passenger’s information, and later determined that the information provided was false. At this time, officers requested the passenger to exit the vehicle.
As the door opened, a fanny pack fell to the ground, and a firearm was located inside. The passenger attempted to flee the area, and a foot pursuit ensued. Officers were quickly able to handcuff the individual, and place him under arrest. The recovered firearm was later determined to be a Walther P5 with eight rounds in the magazine.
Parara was charged with: Unlawful possession of a firearm, and unlawful possession of ammunition. He is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.
