Loaded Firearm Recovered After a Traffic Stop in Roxbury

At about 12:52 AM, on October 28, 2023, members of the Youth Violence Strike Force and Massachusetts State Police Gang Unit arrested Tyreese Tennyson-Young, 24, of Dorchester on firearm related charges.

Officers were on patrol in the area of Roxbury Street and Warren Street when they observed a motor vehicle parked, but running in a “no stopping any time” posted zone. Officers activated their emergency lights and sirens to initiate a motor vehicle stop.

As officers approached the motor vehicle, they were immediately met with resistance from all four occupants who refused to cooperate with officers. The operator of the motor vehicle rolled up all the windows and proceeded to lock the doors. Officers requested the operator’s driver’s license multiple times, which he continued to refuse.

The operator began to yell at officers and reach into his pockets while looking around the vehicle. Officers advised the operator to show his hands, and unlock the vehicle. One of the rear passengers rolled down his window allowing officers to open the door and issue exit orders for all the occupants.

After further investigation, officers recovered a loaded firearm from inside the vehicle. The firearm was later determined to be a Glock 43 with one round in the chamber and seven rounds in the magazine.

Tennyson-Young was placed under arrest and charged with: Unlawful possession of a firearm, and unlawful possession of ammunition. He is expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court.

The remaining occupants were promptly released from the scene.
