Suspect under arrest after firearm is recovered during traffic stop in Dorchester

On Thursday October 12, 2023 at approximately 12:07 am members of the Youth Violence Strike Force assisted by officers assigned to District B-3 (Mattapan) arrested Jamison Gaston, 27, of Dorchester on firearm related charges following a traffic stop.

Officers were in the area of Blue Hill Ave & Ellington St when they observed the suspect’s vehicle drive by them at a high rate of speed, the officers went to stop the vehicle and prior to doing so observed the suspect’s vehicle violate several more auto laws including failing to yield for pedestrian in the crosswalk. The officers conducted a traffic stop and observed the suspect had a bulge in the front of his hoodie packet consistent with the outline of a firearm.

Once additional units arrived, the officers issued an exit order to the suspect, who refused while attempting to drive off. After failing to take off in the vehicle the suspect immediately began to hunch over while bringing both of his hands to the front hoodie pocket where officers believed there to be a firearm. The officers were successfully able to gain control of the suspects arms and recovered a black and green semi automatic pistol from his front hoodie pocket where the officers observed the bulge. The firearm was later determined to be a .45 Caliber Glock 30, which had 13 rounds of live ammunition in the magazine and 1 live round in the chamber.

The suspect was placed under arrest and charged with: Unlawful possession of a firearm, and unlawful possession of ammunition, unlawful possession of a large capacity feeding device, Unlawful possession of a firearm 3rd offense, and several other charges. The suspect is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.
