Two Firearms Recovered After a Traffic Stop in Dorchester

At about 9:29 PM, on Thursday, September 28, 2023, officers assigned to District B-3 (Mattapan) arrested Jonathan Mena-Hernandez, 36, of Boston, on firearm and drug related charges.

Officers were on patrol in the area of 46 Columbia Road when they observed a motor vehicle fail to stop for a red light. Officers immediately activated their emergency lights and sirens to initiate a traffic stop. As officers made contact with the operator of the motor vehicle, they observed a handle of a firearm near his foot.

Officers requested the suspect to exit the vehicle, and placed him into handcuffs. Officers searched the motor vehicle and recovered two firearms as well as a plastic bag containing what they believed to be cocaine and crystal meth. The firearms were later determined to be a Sig Sauer P365 with nine rounds in the magazine, and a Smith & Wesson M&P Shield with seven rounds in the magazine.

Mena-Hernandez was placed under arrest and charged with: Two counts of unlawful possession of a firearm, two counts of unlawful possession of ammunition, and possession with intent to distribute class B. He is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.
