At about 7:50 PM, on Tuesday, August 15, 2023, members of the Youth Violence Strike Force made an on-site firearm arrest of Angelo Baez, 20, of Dorchester.
Officers were on patrol in the area of 40 Cheney Street when they were waved down by witnesses who believed a male individual was displaying suspicious behavior. As officers approached the male, he attempted to quickly gain access into an apartment building.
Officers advised the male of the 911 call, and that he matched the description given by witnesses. The suspect began to frantically pull items from his pockets, without officers asking him to do so. At this time, officers conducted a pat frisk of the suspect, and recovered a loaded firearm from his waistband. The firearm was later determined to be a Smith and Wesson SD9 with one round in the chamber and twelve rounds in the magazine.
Baez was placed under arrest and charged with; Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, and Unlawful Possession of a Large Capacity Feeding Device. He is expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court.
