At about 12:32 AM, on Wednesday, August 16, 2023, officers assigned to the Anti-Crime Unit from District B-2 (Roxbury) arrested Reginald Mells, 25, of Dorchester, on firearm related charges.
Officers were on patrol in the area of Humboldt Avenue and Seaver Street when they observed a motor vehicle fail to stop at a stop sign. Officers had to slam on their brakes to avoid collision with the vehicle. Officers immediately activated their emergency lights and sirens to initiate a traffic stop, but the vehicle failed to stop until finally stopping at Homestead Street and Harold Street.
Officers made contact with the operator, and he was unable to answer basic questions. Officers requested the operator to exit the vehicle in order to conduct a pat frisk. Officers recovered a firearm from inside the vehicle as well as four plastic bags containing marijuana. The firearm was later determined to be a Glock 27 with thirteen rounds in the magazine.
Mells was placed under arrest and charged with; Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Unlawful Possession of a Large Capacity Feeding Device, and Possession with Intent to Distribute Class D. He is expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court.
