Officers Arrest Suspect with Loaded Firearm in Roxbury

At about 6:00 PM, on Tuesday, July 11, 2023, officers assigned to District B-2 (Roxbury) made an onsite firearm arrest of Angel Ruiz, 19, of Dorchester.

Officers were on patrol in the area Leyland Street when they observed three males quickly leave the area. The officers recognized one of the males to have an active warrant for his arrest. As officers attempted to place the suspect into handcuffs, he immediately fled. A foot pursuit ensued, and responding officers observed the suspect grabbing at his waistband, briefly stop behind a vehicle, and continue running. Officers were able to safely place the suspect under arrest and conduct a search of the area.

Officers located a firearm from behind a construction vehicle. The firearm was later determined to be a Springfield Armory XP with one round in the chamber and ten rounds in the magazine.

Ruiz was placed under arrest and charged with; Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, and Unlawful Possession of a Large Capacity Feeding Device. The suspect was also wanted on six outstanding warrants. He is expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court.
