BPD is proud to announce we’ve joined the 30x30initiative by signing the 30x30Pledge! Mayor Wu and Commissioner Cox held a signing ceremony today joined by members of the Department and members of MAWLE and BPD’s Women in Blue. This officially makes BPD part of the movement to advance women in policing. The movement’s goal is 30% of sworn recruits being women by 2030. The national average is 12% women sworn officers and 3% of police leadership in departments. BPD already beats this with more than 15% of the Department, 24% of our current police recruit class and 41% of our leadership being women but we want to continue to build upon these numbers and work to recruit, retain and promote women in all ranks. More than 325 departments nationally have signed the pledge, but BPD is the 6th in Massachusetts thus far.
