A Traffic Stop of a Stolen Motor Vehicle Leads to the Recovery of a Loaded Firearm and the Arrest of Two Suspects

At about 9:15 PM, on Monday, June 19, 2023, officers assigned to the District B-2 Anticrime Unit (Roxbury), conducted a traffic stop of a stolen motor vehicle while in the area of 100 Blue Hill Avenue.

While on patrol in the area, officers observed a motor vehicle traveling with no headlights illuminated on Irwin Avenue. Officers conducted a CJIS query which revealed that the vehicle was listed as stolen. Officers activated their emergency lights and sirens, safely stopped the motor vehicle and approached the driver, later identified as Raul Arias, 19, of Boston.

Officers asked Mr. Arias to exit the motor vehicle, in which he refused and became resistant by twisting and turning his body around. Officers were able to safely remove Mr. Arias from the vehicle along with the passenger, later identified as a 16-year-old juvenile male from Charlestown. Recovered from the passenger seat area of the vehicle was a P80 9mm Glock, loaded with one round in the chamber and eight rounds in the magazine.

Raul Arias was arrested and charged with; Receiving Stolen Motor Vehicle and Resisting Arrest. He is expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court.

The 16-year-old male juvenile was arrested and charged with; Delinquent to wit; Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and Delinquent to wit; Unlawful Possession of Ammunition. He is expected to be arraigned in Boston Juvenile Court.
