At about 5:28 PM, on Wednesday, June 14, 2023, officers assigned to the Anti-Crime Unit of District D-4 (South End) made an on-site firearm arrest of Angel Mendez, 18, of Boston.
Officers were on patrol in the area of 551 Massachusetts Avenue due to the recent uptick of shootings in the area. Officers observed two males in the area that they had prior interactions with and begun a conversation. Officers observed one of the males to be grabbing his waistband, and blading his body away from officers.
Officers exited their cruiser to speak with both males, and one suspect immediately sprinted away from the officers. A foot pursuit ensued, and officers observed the suspect throw a firearm underneath a vehicle on Shawmut Avenue. The suspect was safely placed into custody without further incident.
Officers recovered the firearm which was later determined to be a Sarsilmaz K2-45C with seven rounds in the magazine.
Mendez was placed under arrest and charged with; Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of a Large Capacity Feeding Device, and Unlawful Possession of Ammunition. He is expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court.
