Almost Striking a Police Cruiser Lands One Behind Bars

At about 1:30am, on Tuesday, July 5, 2011, officers from Area C-11 (Dorchester) were travelling along Adams Street when officers were almost struck by a motor vehicle which failed to stop for a Stop Sign at the intersection of Adams & King Streets. Seeing this, officers activated their emergency equipment (lights & sirens) and stopped the car.  When asked to produce his license and registration, the operator stated, \”I didn\’t quite stop for the sign.\” While talking to the suspect, officers were able to detect an odor of alcohol emanating from the suspect. Officers also noted that the suspect’s speech was slurred.  An examination of the car enabled officers to observe and note that the suspect’s car had extensive front end damage and fluids leaking from the engine. When asked to explain the damage, the suspect stated that his friends were fooling around and kicked the front end of his car.
When asked to submit to a field sobriety test, the suspect provided consent. After failing the test, the suspect, a 33 year-old male from Milton, was arrested and charged with Operating Under the Influence.
