Yesterday around 2:48PM, officers from District B-2 (Roxbury) responded to the intersection of Warren St. and Copeland Streets for a person with a gun.
En route, officers were advised that the caller had seen a young man hand a gun to another young man wearing a black Bruins jacket and hat on a bicycle. Officers were also informed that the suspect was last seen riding down Copeland St. towards Moreland Street. Numerous officers responded to the area of the call and in the area of Moreland St., officers observed a young man matching the suspect description riding a bike. Officers stopped and approached the individual matching the suspect description in front of 77 Moreland Street. Officers approached the suspect and ordered to stop and keep his hands in sight. The suspect, who was talking on the phone, stopped his bike but ignored officers’ commands to keep his hands in sight. Officers after the suspect’s failure to follow their commands approached him and attempted to conduct a pat frisk. The suspect violently struggled with officers until they were able to physically restrain him. Once the suspect was restrained, officers pat frisked him and felt a hard object in his waist consistent with a handgun. Officers then raised his jacket and a handgun fell out of his waist.
The suspect, a 13-year old male juvenile from Dorchester was then arrested and charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, and Resisting Arrest. Once arrested, the suspect was additionally charged with Receiving Stolen Property after it was discovered that the gun was reported stolen.
