At about 1:00am, on Sunday, June 12, 2011, officers from Area D-14 (Brighton) were on patrol when they observed a disturbance in front of 161 Brighton Ave (The Avenue in the Square Bar). Officers spoke to bar employees who stated that an individual attempted to enter the establishment without showing proper identification. According to bar employees, when the patron was told he couldn’t enter, he became angry. When officers told the individual that he had to leave the area, the suspect eventually left the area but not before choosing to verbally disparage and disrespect the officers.
A short time later, officers responded to a call for a car that had been vandalized in the area of 161 Brighton Ave. On arrival, officers located and spoke to the victim who stated that a white male kicked his car which resulted in a sizeable dent in the car’s right front fender. Officers observed a large dent on the car. The victim further stated that the suspect was still on scene and then proceeded to point the suspect out. Officers noted the suspect was the same individual who was asked to leave the establishment earlier in the evening.
When asked about the damage to the car, the suspect stated, “Someone pushed me into the car.” However, several witnesses who saw the suspect kick the car contradicted his version of what transpired.
Officers arrested Max Rosenfeld, 22, of Brighton and charged him with the Willful & Malicious Destruction of Property.
