At about 2:10am, on Friday, June 10, 2011, an officer performing a paid detail in the area of 180 Lincoln Street observed a group of males arguing at the intersection of Lincoln & Beach Streets. Seeing the argument, the detail officer approached and intervened in an effort to calm the combatants. While attempting to calm the situation, the detail officer promptly observed one individual slowly backing up with what appeared to be a small silver firearm in his right hand. Seeing the gun, the officer promptly drew his department issued firearm and ordered the suspect to put the gun down. At this point, the suspect, refusing to adhere to the officer’s lawful commands, turned away from the officer and fled on foot. 
While running behind the suspect, the officer repeatedly broadcast his position and the suspect’s direction of flight. In the area of 201 South Street, the detail officer, still running behind the suspect, observed the suspect slow and make a motion consistent with a person dropping an object. Further, the officer heard a metal object drop to the ground. Since the noise heard was consistent with noise made when a gun is dropped to the ground, a search of the immediate area was conducted. During that search, officers were able to locate and take possession of a loaded firearm.   

After dropping the firearm, officers were able to apprehend the suspect. When asked to produce a license to carry, the suspect stated, “I don’t have one.”

Officers arrested Eddy Alcindor, 30, of Randolph and charged him with the Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and Ammunition, Possession of a Firearm with Obliterated Serial Numbers, Possession of a Firearm on a Public Way and Resisting Arrest.
