Good Surveillance Pays Off!

Yesterday around 5:56PM, officers from the Youth Violence Strike Force (Gang Unit) arrested suspect, Jamal Jones, 28 of Dorchester and charged him with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition and Unlawful Possession of a Loaded Firearm.
Officers from the Gang Unit were conducting surveillance in the Wayland Street area of Roxbury when they made note of the suspect who was accompanied by two other individuals in front of 75 Wayland Street. The suspect who is known to officers was observed looking up and down the street as he continually reached into his right pocket. Officers continued to monitor the suspect as he made his way through several streets observing the same conduct which was deemed to be indicative of an armed individual.  

Near 19 Ingleside Street, officers approached the suspect to conduct a threshold inquiry. As officers approached the suspect and asked o speak to him, the suspect was observed to quickly reach into his right jean pocket, quickly pull his hand out and appear to throw something out of his pocket as he turned his body a full turn.  As the suspect did this, officers clearly heard the sound of something metallic strike the ground.

The suspect was stopped and officers looked in the area where the suspect had been observed throwing the object out of his pocket and there located a loaded gun. The suspect was then placed under arrest and charged with the above offenses.
