Fool Me Once, Shame on You; Fool Me Twice…Absolutely Not!!

On May 9 of this year, detectives from the Auto Theft Unit met with a victim who reported that he purchased a car from a private seller on April 27 but when he went to register the car at the Registry of Motor Vehicle found out that the car was reported stolen. The victim additionally told officers that the person who sold him the car had more vehicles for sale.
Detectives further investigated the circumstances surrounding the stolen car and learned that the car has been reported on to the Boston police on April 27, 2011. Based on conversation with the owner of the stolen car, officers learned that the car was stolen around 11:30PM when the owner left the car running with the keys in the ignition.

Armed this information, officers contacted the person who had sold the car to the victim and arranged to buy another car from him. The suspect showed up with a car to sell to detectives and the victim who was on scene positively identified the suspect once he got out of the car as the same person who had sold him the stolen car for $2,200.00.

The suspect, Keith Boutwell, 32 of Dorchester was arrested and charged with Receiving a Stolen Motor Vehicle, Larceny Over $250.00, Operating with a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended License, and Operating an Unregistered and Uninsured Motor Vehicle.
