Yesterday morning around 8:40AM, officers from District D-4 (South End) responded to the intersection of Washington and East Berkeley Streets to assist an officer performing a detail at the Pine Street Inn.
On arrival, officers observed a male, later determined to be the suspect, being chased by employees of the Pine Street Inn. Officers assisted in the apprehension of the suspect and then spoke to employees of the shelter and the victim to determine what happened. The victim stated that she was walking on Paul Sullivan way when she was grabbed from behind and pushed to the ground. The victim then reported that she felt a sharp object placed to her back while suspect demanded money. The suspect then reached into the victim’s bra and stole $9.00 after which he was pursued by staff at the Pine Street inn.
Once the suspect, Geraldo Ortiz, 45 of Boston was arrested, officers recovered the $9.00 which was stolen from the victim and the victim was able to identify the denominations of the bills. The suspect was then charged with Armed Robbery.
