Last night around 7:20PM, officers from District D-4 (South End) responded to a radio call to the rear of 51 Worcester St.  for a breaking and entering in progress.
While en route, officers were advised that that the suspect was being restrained by two good Samaritans.  A description of the suspect was broadcast along with his direction of flight as going through the back alleys towards west Concord Street. Based on the broadcast, officers converged on the areas of Newland, West Newton and West Concord Streets and while in that area observed the suspect being restrained by the two good Samaritans.  The suspect was then placed in handcuffs while officers further investigated the incident.  A short distance away, officers located a tote bag belonging to the suspect with several items inside. Inside the bag, officers found a GPS, a silver jewelry box with numerous pieces of jewelry, several charging wires, a walkman, ear-bud headphones and personal massager. Once officers located those items, the suspect exclaimed that he found them in the trash.

Officers then spoke to a witness who stated that he initially observed the suspect in the rear of 49 Worcester St around 3:00PM and about an hour later observed the suspect leaving the area with two hang-able flower pots.  Around 7:00PM that same night, the witness reported that he was speaking to his neighbors and they reported that two flower pots were stolen from their secured fenced in back yard area. A few minutes after having this conversation with his neighbor, the witness observed the suspect coming down the alley again.  At this time, the victim and the witness attempted to restrain the suspect who was able to break free from their grasp but they continued to pursue him until officers arrived on scene on Newland Street.

The suspect, Rafael Rosario, 59 of Boston was arrested and charged with Receiving Stolen Property and Breaking and Entering a Dwelling House in the Day.
