Yesterday morning around 11:20AM, officers from the Youth Violence Strike Force arrested suspect, Adriano Cortez, 17 of Dorchester and charged him with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Carrying a Loaded Firearm on a Public Way, Possession with intent to Distribute Class B within 1,000’ School Zone, Possession with Intent to Distribute Class D within 1,000’ of a School Zone and Trespassing. A second suspect, Lino Correia, 18 of Randolph was arrested and charged with Refusal to Stop for Police Officers, Driving to Endanger and Speeding.
Officers were on patrol in the Adams and winter Streets in Dorchester when they observed a car traveling at a high rate of speed turn onto Robinson and continue to accelerate as it then turned onto Draper Street. Officers activated their lights and sirens in an effort to stop the car but the car failed to stop and continued onto Ditson St. where the operator lost control of the car and crashed. There, officers blocked the suspect car in between the cruiser and another parked car but the suspects then reversed their car into the police cruiser. Immediately after the suspect car backed into the cruiser, suspect Cortez got out of the car and took off running.
Officers pursued the suspect after noticing that he was holding an object in his waist band, thinking that he was armed. Officers pursued the suspect all the while identifying their office and directing him to stop. The suspect failed despite officers’ orders and continue running jumping over fences and cutting through several yards. During the time officers were pursuing the suspect, officer heard a sound consistent with a metallic object hitting the ground and then rounded the corner of a house where they observed US currency, plastic bags containing crack cocaine. Shortly after seeing these items strewn outside, officers were able to stop and place him under arrest. Once the suspect was placed under arrest, officers retraced their steps and the route that the suspect had been pursued and located a loaded .357 firearm that had fresh scratch marks consistent with having been thrown by the suspect during the pursuit. In addition, officers located 6 rocks of crack cocaine in addition to a bag of marijuana. Suspect, Cortez during the booking process was found to have another small bag of crack cocaine in his coat pocket and a small amount of marijuana.
Other officers were able to respond to the car and there placed the operator of the car, suspect Correia under arrest and charged him with the above charges.
