Yesterday morning around 8:25AM, officers from District A-1 (Downtown Boston) arrested suspect, Kevin Carter, 23 of Boston and charged him with Larceny over $250.00 and Receiving Stolen Property.
Officers were on patrol in the area of the Haymarket MBTA Station when they the suspect approached an officer dressed in plain clothes and offered to sell him a brand new I-Pod in the box. Officers, believing that the suspect was of unlawful design, offered the suspect $20 as a ruse. The suspect countered the officer’s offer with an offer of $40.00. The suspect then went in his pocket and produced the I-Pod in its original packaging at which time at the officer produced his badge and identified himself as a police officer.
The suspect, once questioned about where he had gotten the I-Pod concocted a story about purchasing the items with a credit card. The suspect when further questioned could not provide a receipt for the items nor tell officers where he had gotten them from. When asked if he had anything else on his person, the suspect produced two digital cameras, and a Garmin GPS. As a result of the above discoveries and statements from the suspect, he was placed under arrest and charged with the above offenses.
