OUI Driver Arrested after Nearly Hitting Cruiser

Late last night officers from District A-7 (East Boston) arrested suspect, Delores P. Flores, 30 of East Boston and charged him with Operating under the Influence of Alcohol.
Officers were on patrol on Bremen St. approaching Brooks St. when they observed a gray Dodge Caravan fail to stop for a stop sign, and cross the double yellow line almost striking the marked cruiser. Officers quickly turned around to conduct a traffic stop of the car and again observed the same car fail to stop for another stop sign.

Officers activated their lights and sirens and conducted a traffic stop in front of 192 Bremen Street. Officers approached the car and observed the operator leaning forward attempting to get his license. After some time of observing the suspect fumbling with his wallet and dropping it on the floor, officers opened the door and again asked the operator for his license. The operator mumbled to officers that he was sorry. While speaking to the operator, the operator just stumbled out of the car and fell to the ground. Officers assisted the suspect off of the ground due to the fact that he was unable to stand without assistance. As officers assisted the operator, he slurred his speech, had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath, and had glassy eyes. After making these observations, officers formed the opinion that the suspect was under the influence of alcohol and decided to administer sobriety tests to the suspect. However due to the operator being unable to stand without assistance, officers could not conduct the sobriety tests and concluded that suspect’s ability to safely drive his car was substantially diminished due to alcohol consumption.

Once the suspect was placed under arrest, he stated to officers that he had only had 5 beers and that he was sorry.
