Yesterday afternoon around 12:45PM, officers from District D-14 (Brighton) responded to a radio call for a crime in progress to the area of Chestnut Hill Ave. and Priscilla Road.
On arrival, officers spoke to a witness who reported observing a man acting strangely. The witness reported that she thought that the man was “up to no good” so she continued to watch him. The witness further reported that she then observed the man (whose hand appeared to be wrapped up with some kind of bandage) walk up to a car and punch the window until it broke. Once the window broke, the witness reported that the suspect noticed that he was being watched and so retreated to his vehicle and drove away down Chestnut Hill Avenue. The witness reported that she followed the suspect’s and noticed that the registration plate was covered by a piece of paper.  That piece of paper blew away after some time and the suspect’s plate was revealed to the witness who in turn provided the plate number to officers.  After speaking to the witness, officers notified the owner of the car who reported that his navigation system was stolen from his car.

Officers broadcast the plate of the car along with a description of the suspect to units in the area in order to find the suspect.  About two hours later, officers working in an unmarked car were parked at the intersection of Falkland and Corinne Streets when they observed the suspect motor vehicle occupied by an individual matching the suspect description drive up to and park at the intersection of Falkland and Hobart Streets.

Officers approached the car and identified themselves to the operator and asked him to step out of the car. Once out of the car, officers noted that the operator matched the exact description given by the witness and his plate was an also an exact match as that given by the witness.

The suspect, Christopher J. Paulino, 42 of Brighton was arrested and charged with Breaking and Entering in a Motor Vehicle, Malicious Destruction of Property and Possession of Burglarious Tools. Once the suspect was arrested, officers recovered a screwdriver, a pair of black and red gloves, a brown ace bandage and a GPS holder from his car.
