B&E Suspects Apprehended Leaving the Scene

Yesterday, Sunday, February 13, 2011 around 3:36PM, officers from District B-2 (Roxbury) responded to a call for a breaking and entering in progress at 121 Homestead Street. En route, officers were advised that the address was not 121 but rather 119. In addition, officers were advised that the suspects, one of who was described as a light skinned male, heavy build wearing a black hooded sweatshirt had just gotten into a van with the registration given that fled in the direction of Humboldt Avenue.

Officers proceeded to both the incident location and in the direction of flight given.  As officers were proceeding on Humboldt Ave. near Walnut Ave. they observed a van proceeding in the opposite direction. Officers changed directions following the car and opposite 73 Humboldt Ave. two suspects jumped out of the car and fled on foot.

Officers pursued the two suspects and after a lengthy foot chase, were able to stop and place under arrest one of the suspects outside 79 Charlame Place. The second was able to make good his escape but officers and detectives were soon able to identify him. A short time after identifying the second suspect, officers and detectives discovered his address and responded to 303 Dudley Street to place him under arrest. Officers arrived there and knocked on the suspect’s room door without any response after numerous knocks.  After some time, officers were able to enter the room and found the suspect sitting inside.

The suspects, Chaz Dawson, 18 and Steve Diaz, 30 both of Roxbury were both arrested and charged with Breaking and Entering in the Daytime. In addition, suspect Diaz was charged with several outstanding warrants.
