At about 12:17am, on Wednesday, January 12, 2011, officers from Area A-1 (Downtown) responded to a call for a breaking and entry in progress at 118 Charles Street (Lauren’s Nails). On arrival, officers observed two individuals who matched the description of the suspects. When asked what they were doing in the area, one of the suspects stated, “I’m just walking around. I’m not doing anything.” A pat frisk of the suspects enabled officers to locate a folding knife. Moreover, a search of the immediate area enabled officers to locate a screwdriver. The owner of the store witnessed the break-in courtesy of a video surveillance camera which he was able to access at his home. Officers observed damage in the way of pry marks and broken wood in and around the front door of the store.
When the owner arrived on scene and saw the suspects, the owner stated, “That’s them.”
Officers arrested Dave Downey, 52, of Saugus and Chris Perito, 39, of Boston and charged both with Breaking & Entering (Nighttime).
