This morning around 8:03AM, a Boston Police officer performing a construction detail at the intersection of Massachusetts and Harrison Avenues was struck by a car. The officer sustained non-life threatening injuries and was transported to Boston Medical Center in stable condition.
The officer, in the course of doing this construction detail, was wearing a bright green fluorescent vest and using a whistle to direct traffic around the construction site when he was struck by a car making a left turn onto Massachusetts Ave. from Harrison Avenue. The officer further reported that he observed the car making the left turn and blew his whistle to have the car stop and eventually took several steps back noticing that the operator was not looking forward. The car continued toward the officer striking him and knocking him to the ground.
Officers spoke to the operator of the car and he stated that he did not see the officer standing in front of his vehicle.
The operator of the car was cited for Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle, and Failure to Yield to a Pedestrian in a Crosswalk.
