Co-Operative Witnesses Assist Officers in Gun Arrest

This morning around 6:50PM, officers from District B-2 (Roxbury) were on patrol in the area of Elm Hill Ave. and Cheney St. when they observed a car with defective equipment/ violation of the auto laws.

Officers, at the corner of Elm Hill Ave. and Crawford Street, attempted to conduct a traffic stop when the car initially pulled over but then took of a at a high rate of speed. Officers followed the car from a safe distance as it continued to attempt to evade officers.  While officers were following the car at one point as it took a sharp turn, witnesses yelled to officers that the occupants of the cat had just thrown a gun from the car. Officers broadcast this information to other officers responding to the incident who were able to recover the gun with the assistance of the same witnesses.

Officers followed the car as it continued to try to evade them but near the intersection of Dale St. and Walnut Ave. the occupants of the suspect motor vehicle were forced to stop due to traffic and consequently abandoned the car and fled on foot. Officers pursued the suspects and successfully caught both the operator and passenger after brief foot pursuits.

Officers returned to the car and discovered that all windows to the car were up except for the window to the front passenger seat. As a result of that discovery, and the location where the gun was found, officers charged the passenger of the car, Sadiq Johnson, 20, of Mattapan with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Carrying a Loaded Weapon and with being an Armed Career Criminal. The operator of the car, Decourcey Belle, 21, of Dorchester, was charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle after License Revocation, a host of motor vehicle violations including Speeding and Failure to Stop for Red Lights, and Driving to Endanger.
