15 Year-Old Juvenile Arrested with Loaded Firearm

Around 11:32AM on Saturday, June 12, 2010, officers from District B-3 (Dorchester/Mattapan) were on patrol in the Franklin Field area of Dorchester when they observed the interaction between two separate groups. The interaction between the groups and intelligence officers had received caused them concern so they turned around to further investigate the two groups.

Officers turned and further noticed that one group made furtive moves to hide their presence as the other group walked by. Officers, as they approached, additionally noted the individuals in the two groups and recognized them from past interactions and intelligence. Officers, at this time, decided to stop and further investigate by engaging these individuals in conversation.

Officers exited their car and while engaging the first individual in conversation performed a pat frisk. One member of the group as officers approached started to distance himself from the group and was also observed to appear to be nervous, scared and shocked at the officers’ presence. Another individual was observed trying to remove himself from officers’ attention by standing behind another male, standing in a bladed stance. Officers immediately noticed this individual and then saw that he also appeared nervous. Officers, based on training received on the ‘characteristics of an armed gunman’ and prior experience approached this individual also to conduct a pat frisk. Officers, while pat frisking the suspect, recovered a loaded semi-automatic firearm from his waistband.

The suspect, a 15 year-old male juvenile from Mattapan was arrested and charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Possession of a Firearm with anAltered Serial Number and Carrying a Loaded Firearm.
