FAKE CHECK LANDS ONE BEHIND BARS
At about 4:45pm, on Tuesday, June 8, 2010, officers from Area A-1 (Downtown) responded to a radio call for a report of an individual attempting to pass a fraudulent check at 25 Stuart Street (Citibank). On arrival, officers spoke to bank employees who stated that an individual, still inside the bank, was attempting to cash a bad check. Officers spoke to the suspect who stated that he received the check in the mail from a man named Charlie who worked at the International Raoul Wallenberg Foundation. The suspect didn’t know Charlie’s last name. According to the suspect, Charlie told him to cash the check in order to purchase food for the foundation. Officers called the foundation. Upon doing so, officers learned that no one at the foundation knew anything about the individual cashing the check or instructions to purchase food. Furthermore, officers learned that the check was fraudulent.
Officers arrested Sheldon Ward, 28, of Boston and charged him with Uttering a False Check.
POLICE ARREST ONE ROBBING A 7-ELEVEN
At about 4:37pm, on Tuesday, June 8, 2010, officers from Area A-1 (Downtown) were on patrol in the area of 125 Tremont Street when they were approached by an employee of 7-Eleven. According to the employee, a man inside the store pulled a knife on him. According to the clerk, he observed an individual steal items inside the store. Specifically, the employee observed the suspect stuffing items into his backpack. When the clerk confronted the suspect, the suspect showed a box cutter, waived it at the clerk and threatened to harm him. A search of the area enabled officers to locate the suspect. When officers approached, the suspect became agitated. When asked if he was in possession of any weapons, the suspect attempted to take off. After a brief struggle, officers were able to take the suspect in custody. A search of the suspect enabled officers to locate and take possession of the box cutter, as well as, the items taken from 7-Eleven.
After the suspect was positively identified, officers arrested Frankie Rosa, 22, of Boston and charged him with Armed Robbery.
