POLICE ARREST TWO FOR THE UNLAWFUL POSSESSION OF A FIREARM
At about 10:44pm, on Saturday, May 8, 2010, officers from Area B-3 (Mattapan) were on patrol in the area of Astoria Street when they observed a blue motor vehicle occupied by two persons. As officers drove past the car, they observed an individual who looked familiar to them. Specifically, the individual matched the description of a suspect wanted in connection with an earlier incident (a robbery). As a result, officers stopped their cruiser and approached the motor vehicle. As officers approached the car, officers could smell or detect the odor of burnt marijuana. While talking to the occupants, officers noted that both individuals appeared to be highly nervous. Specifically, officers noted that the passenger of the car appeared to be restless and fidgety. Officers then observed the passenger put something in his mouth. Believing that the suspect was attempting to destroy drug evidence, officers ordered the suspect out of the car. However, once outside the car, officers were unable to locate drug evidence on the passenger.
While dealing with the passenger, officers also observed the operator of the car reach for something in the rear of the car. Officers promptly instructed the driver to exit the car. With the driver out of the car, officers proceeded to search the area the driver was reaching towards. Upon looking in the backseat, officers observed the grip of firearm. Upon closer inspection, officers were able to observe and take possession of loaded semiautomatic firearm. When asked if either were in possession of a license to carry, both the passenger and the driver stated, “No.” An inventory search of the car enabled officers to see and take possession of a 2nd firearm.
Officers arrested Malcolm Mims, 24, of Cambridge and Leonard Jackson, 29, of Danvers and charged both with the Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition and the Unlawful Possession of a Loaded Firearm on a Public Way.
POLICE ARREST THREE FOR ARMED ROBBERY
At about 10:45pm, on Saturday, May 8, 2010, officers from Area B-3 (Mattapan) responded to a radio call for a person with a gun in the area of 825 Morton Street. On arrival, officers spoke to the victim who stated that he was waiting for the bus when three black males (who looked to be in their teens) approached and began talking to him. According to the victim, one of the suspects then motioned in such a way as if he had a firearm and stated, “Give me everything you got.” At this point, the victim ran across the street and into a Walgreens. Once inside the store, the victim called police. After speaking to the victim, officers promptly broadcast a description of the three suspects. In short time, officers, patrolling the area, were able to locate and detain three individuals who matched the description of the suspects. While officers were questioning the suspects, the victim was brought to the scene. Upon seeing the individuals being detained, the victim stated, “That’s them.”
Officers arrested Ray Roe, 17, of Boston, a 16 year-old male and a 15 year-old male both from Boston and charged all three with Attempted Armed Robbery.
