Police Reach Out to Victims to Claim Stolen Items – See Attached Images

On Sunday, April 3, 2010, detectives from District E-5 (West Roxbury) responded to the Brookline Police Department as part of a joint effort to interview two male suspects who had just been arrested for breaking and entering into a motor vehicle and receiving stolen property.

The suspects, Victor Pena, 18, of Jamaica Plain and Leander Ortega, 18, of Dorchester were arraigned for their crimes in Brookline but Boston Police detectives continue to investigate the numerous reported cases of B&Es to motor vehicles in and around the Boston area.

At about 4:30 am on April 13th, 2010, a detective from District E-5 received a phone call from Brookline Police detectives informing him of the arrest of two car break suspects in their jurisdiction.  Brookline detectives informed the Boston detective that some of the stolen property recovered from the suspect’s motor vehicle may have come from the District E-5 area.

E-5 detectives immediately responded to Brookline Police headquarters. On the way, E-5 detectives formulated a list of questions for the suspects while en route to Brookline. The detectives conducted a lengthy interview with one of the suspects, Leander Ortega.  During the interview the suspect took responsibility for approximately 26 Motor Vehicle breaks on District E-5, as well as breaks in Norwood, Brookline, South Boston and Jamaica Plain beginning March 24th.  This date coincides with a significant increase in reported car breaks on District E-5 and District E-13.

 With this information from this debriefing, detectives from Brookline and Boston responded to a residence in Jamaica Plain where dozens of pieces of evidence were recovered.

This evidence is being put on display for victims to recover. Any individual recently victimized by a car break in the West Roxbury, Jamaica Plain area is encouraged to come forward to potentially recover stolen items.
