SLIDING INTO HOME LANDS ONE DRIVER BEHIND BARS

At about 1:09am, on Sunday, March 28, 2010, officers from Area B-3 (Mattapan) were on patrol in the area of River Street and Gladeside Ave in Mattapan when they observed a black motor vehicle travelling at an excessive rate of speed. As officers followed the car, they further observed the car fail to stop for a stop sign. As a result of these observations, officers activated their emergency equipment (lights & sirens) in an effort to stop the motor vehicle. However, instead of stopping, the operator continued driving. As officers followed behind the suspect’s car, officers observed the suspect turn abruptly into a driveway in front of 114 West Selden Street. However, while attempting to turn into the driveway, the suspect struck the front steps of the home. Upon hitting the stairs, officers observed the suspect quickly jump out of his car, thrust his hands in the air and surrender to the officers. When asked to explain why he refused to stop, the suspect, motioning towards the house, stated, “I knew my license wasn’t valid but I thought if I was able to make it home, everything would be alright.” The suspect lives at the above mentioned address.

Officers arrested Maxwell Thomas, 39, of Boston and charged him with Operating without a License, Refusing to Stop for a Police Officer and Driving to Endanger. 

TOSSING A FIREARM WHILE DRIVING NEVER A GOOD IDEA

At about 2:35pm, on Sunday, March 28, 2010, officers from Area B-3 (Mattapan) were on patrol in the area of Capen Street when they observed a green motor vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed. As a result of their observations, officers activated emergency equipment (lights & sirens) in an effort to stop the car. However, instead of stopping, the suspect accelerated away from the officers. While trailing behind the suspect’s vehicle, officers observed the operator put his hand out the window and toss an object, possibly a firearm, towards the sidewalk. Back-up officers responded to the location where the operator was seen tossing the object. Once there, officers were able to locate and seize a silver-colored firearm. Upon stopping the car, officers ordered the operator to exit the motor vehicle.

Once outside the car, Patrick Romaine, 26, of Boston was arrested and charged with Refusing to Stop for a Police Officer, the Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and the Unlawful Possession of a Firearm.

POLICE ARREST FOUR FOR THREATENING OTHERS WITH A MACHETE

At about 7:01pm, on Sunday, March 28, 2010, officers from Area A-7 (East Boston) responded to a radio call for person who had been assaulted by a group of kids with a machete in the area of Liberty Plaza in East Boston. On arrival, officers spoke to the victim who stated that he was walking along Meridian Street when a group of four young kids approached him and began taunting and threatening him. The victim says one or two of the suspects brandished what looked like machetes. At this point, fearing for his safety, the victim ran to a friend’s house where, one there, he called police. Officers located the four suspects. While officers detained the suspects, the victim was brought to the scene for identification purposes. Once on scene, the victim looked at the suspects and stated, “That’s them.” Officers searched the suspects but were unable to observe or locate a machete.

Officers arrested Jonathan Miranda, 18, of Boston, two 16 year-old males and a 15 year-old male and charged all four with Assault by Means of a Dangerous Weapon (machete).
