Boston Police Detail Officer Apprehends One of Boston’s \’Most Wanted\’

Today, Tuesday, March 9, 2010, at approximately 9:30AM, a detail officer doing a detail at 784 Massachusetts Ave. arrested suspect, David McKenney, 44, of Winthrop, on several outstanding arrest warrants for Kidnapping, Robbery and Assault by Means of a Dangerous Weapon (gun) and a Probation/Parole Violation warrant with the assistance of several other units assigned to District D-4.

 Prior to today’s arrest, Mr. McKenney was listed as one of Boston’s \’Most Wanted\’ for an incident that took place on January 9, 2010. At approximately 6:20am, Boston Police Officers assigned to Area D-4 (South End / Lower Roxbury) responded to the area of Massachusetts Avenue @ Washington Street for two people fighting.

 Upon arrival, the officers met with a male victim who informed them that he had just been robbed at gunpoint by a black male. The victim stated to officers that he agreed to accompany the suspect in a vehicle and that is when the suspect brandished a firearm and pointed it in his face demanding money. The victim turned over his wallet that contained an undisclosed amount of currency before being pulled from the vehicle. The victim supplied a detailed description of the suspect as well as the suspect’s vehicle’s license plate. An immediate search of the area for the suspect was unsuccessful.

 BPD officers continued to investigate the incident and search for the suspect vehicle. As a result of a thorough and exhaustive investigation, Detectives were able to follow leads that led them to Mr. McKenney. An identification of Mr. McKenney was then made that resulted in the court issuing the warrant for his arrest.  

 This morning, the suspect was arrested when an alert and quick thinking detail officer observed the suspect walk into 784 Massachusetts Ave. and recognized him as being wanted. The detail officer was able to confirm the suspect’s identity and after confirming his identity, the detail officer requested the assistance of nearby district units who quickly responded and assisted in placing the suspect under arrest.
