OFF-DUTY POLICE OFFICER HELPS NAB SHOELESS B&E SUSPECT IN BRIGHTON

At about 5:38am, on Sunday, January 10, 2010, officers from Area D-14 (Brighton) responded to a radio call for a breaking and entering in the area of 144 Franklin Street. On arrival, officers spoke to the victim who stated that he was sleeping upstairs in his residence when he heard noises coming from downstairs. When he ventured downstairs, the victim says he observed a white male stuffing ill-gotten gains into his jacket. When confronted, the suspect punched the victim and fled the residence. The victim did not require medical attention.

Officers promptly broadcast a description of the suspect (5’10” white male in his early 30’s, wearing a green jacket, blue jeans and no shoes) over the police radio. In short time, an off-duty police officer who lives in the area observed an individual who matched the description of the suspect. Upon seeing the suspect without shoes, the off-duty officer approached and detained the suspect. While the suspect was being detained, the victim was brought to the scene. Once on scene, the victim was able to positively identify the suspect as the person seen inside his home.

Officers arrested Greg Kirsh, 31, of Boston and charged him with Breaking & Entering a Residence (night time) and Assault & Battery.

POLICE ARREST ARMED ROBBER FOR STEALING LEATHER JACKET

At about 1:17am, on Sunday, January 10, 2010, officers from Area B-2 (Roxbury) received a radio call for an armed robbery in the area of Seaver Street and Humboldt Avenue. On arrival, officers spoke to the victim who stated that he was walking along Seaver Street when the suspect approached him from behind, showed a knife and demanded his jacket. According to the victim he was wearing a leather jacket with the words ‘NEW YORK’ stitched across the front. After getting robbed, the victim says he followed the suspect and watched him enter a building at 100 Seaver Street. Upon entering that location, officers were able to locate the suspect. When asked how he came to possess the victim’s jacket, the suspect stated that the victim was visiting and left his jacket behind.

Officers arrested Charles Allen, 45, of Boston charged him with Armed Robbery and Unlawfully Carrying a Dangerous Weapon (knife). While inside the location, officers observed and took possession of the knife used in the robbery.
