DAILY INCIDENTS FOR THURSDAY, JANUARY 7, 2010

POLICE ARREST ONE FOR STEALING A CAR AND THEN REFUSING TO STOP

At about 9:30 am, on Wednesday, January 6, 2010, officers from Area E-13 (Jamaica Plain) were on patrol in the area of Dimock Street when they observed a motor vehicle travelling the wrong way down a one way street. As a result of their observations, officers activated their emergency equipment (lights & sirens) and stopped the motor vehicle. A query thru the Registry of Motor Vehicles reveled or showed that the car had been reported stolen. As officers approached the car, the car took off. In short time, officers relocated the motor vehicle in the area of Wardman Road and Westminister Avenue. As officers approached, the suspect stopped the car and exited the vehicle on foot. After a brief foot pursuit, officers were able to locate and apprehend the suspect. A search of the suspect’s motor vehicle enabled officers to find and take possession of a purse and several ATM cards. The purse and the ATM cards had been reported as stolen.

Officers arrested Maurice Pridgett, 29, of Boston and charged him with Receiving a Stolen Motor Vehicle, Receiving Stolen Property, Using a Motor Vehicle w/o Authority, Failure to Stop for a Police Officer, Operating After Suspension, Resisting Arrest, Possession of Burglarious Tools and Driving to Endanger.

DOMESTIC DISTURBANCE LANDS ONE IN JAIL IN BRIGHTON

At about 2:17am, on Wednesday, January 6, 2010, officers from Area D-14 (Brighton) responded to a radio call a domestic disturbance in the area of 1302 Commonwealth Avenue. On arrival, officers spoke to the victim who stated that her boyfriend had assaulted her by kicking and punching her. Officers observed visible injuries (redness, swelling, scratch marks) to the victim’s face and neck areas. The victim stated that she believed the suspect was still nearby and feared his return. While still on scene, the suspect called the victim’s cell phone and stated he was out back. Upon looking out back, officers observed the suspect sitting on a fire escape. When officers approached, the suspect attempted to flee. After a brief struggle, officers were able take suspect into custody.

Officers arrested Chris Ortiz, 27, of Fairhaven, MA and charged him with Assault & Battery (209A) and Assault & Battery by Means of a Dangerous Weapon.
