BOSTON POLICE SEEK PUBLIC’S HELP IN THEIR EFFORTS TO IDENTIFY SUSPECTS WANTED IN CONNECTION TO ROBBERIES IN JAMAICA PLAINOn Tuesday, September 22, 2009, there were five street robberies reported in Jamaica Plain in the areas of Boylston Street, Centre Street and Chestnut Street. As such, the Boston Police Department is making every effort to notify and alert community members in these areas. The robberies took place approximately between the hours of 6:00pm and 11:30pm.
Incident descriptions:
• On Thursday, September 22, 2009 at about 6:10pm, officers from Area E-13 (Jamaica Plain) responded to a radio call for a robbery in the area of Boylston and Amory Streets. On arrival, officers spoke to the victim who stated that two Hispanic males (one wearing a red hat and gray hooded sweatshirt; the other had curly hair and freckles) approached and attempted to rob him. No weapon was shown.
• Approximately 25 minutes later, officers from Area E-13 (Jamaica Plain) responded to a radio call for a robbery in the area of Centre and Forbes Streets. On arrival, officers spoke to the victim who stated that two Hispanic males (same description as the above) approached and robbed her. No weapon was shown.
• At about 11:15pm, officers from Area E-13 (Jamaica Plain) responded to a radio call for an armed robbery in the area of Boylston and Chestnut Streets. According to the victim, the victim was walking in the area of the Stony Brook MBTA station when a suspect approached, showed a firearm and robbed the victim.
• At about 11:20pm, officers from Area E-13 (Jamaica Plain) responded to a radio call for an armed robbery in the area Boylston and Chestnut Streets. According to the victim, the victim was walking towards the Stony Brook MBTA station when a suspect approached from behind, showed a firearm and robbed the victim. Victim said there were two suspects. Victim stated that one of the suspects was a black male.
• At about 11:25pm, officers from Area E-13 (Jamaica Plain) responded to a radio call for an armed robbery in the area Boylston and Adelaide Streets. According to the victim, the victim was walking towards the Stony Brook MBTA station when a suspect approached, showed a firearm and robbed the victim. According to the victim, there were two suspects. One was a black male, the other a black female.
The Boston Police Department is actively investigating the facts and circumstances surrounding these incidents. Anyone with information is strongly encouraged to contact Area E-13 detectives at (617) 343-5628.

• Don’t become distracted by talking on a cell phone or listening to an iPod/similar device.
• Avoid walking alone late at night. Walk with friends and people you know.
• Keep a whistle within reach. If you feel threatened, use it to signal residents.
• Yelling: “Fire!” “Help!” or “Rape!” are ways of drawing attention and alerting people that you need help.
• Hold your car keys in your hand to use as a weapon against an attacker.
• Carry a cell phone. Call ahead to your destination to alert them that you’re on your way. Make sure they expect you at a certain time so that in the event you fail to show up, they\’ll know enough to begin looking for you.
• Walk with confidence. Don’t let anyone violate your space. Trust your instincts. Know this: anyone at anytime can be a victim of crime. Don’t assume, \”IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN TO ME.\”
• If an unarmed attacker confronts you, believe in your ability to scare or incapacitate the attacker.
• If you think that someone is following you, switch direction or cross the street. Walk toward an open store, restaurant or residence.
