Officer Prevents Suicide. Shotgun Seized.
On Friday, September 18, 2009, at approximately 9:59pm, A Boston Police Officer assigned out of Area D-14 (Allston), was patrolling in the area of the train yard near Cambridge Street when he observed a vehicle with its lights off on the property. The officer continued to watch the vehicle and observed it to back up and attempt to leave. The officer found this to be suspicious and ran the vehicle’s registration through the Registry of Motor Vehicle’s data base. The check showed the registered owner was not properly licensed to operate a m/v.
The officer then conducted a traffic stop and requested the operator’s license and registration. While doing so, the officer engaged the male operator in conversation and inquired into his presence in the train yard. The operator informed the officer that he was in the city to visit his son and then he was going to kill himself. The operator went on to state that he had a shotgun in the car and he was going to shoot himself. The officer removed the operator from the vehicle and requested Boston EMS to respond.
The operator was transported to Saint Elizabeth’s Medical Center for an evaluation. He is only being described as a sixty-one-year-old male from Buzzards Bay, Massachusetts.
