Witness’ Call Leads to Arrest of Gun Toting SuspectOn Sunday, August 16, 2009 around 3:17AM, a passerby called 911 and informed the operator that while driving by the Kentucky Fried Chicken on Columbia Road, a black male wearing a Celtics jersey was observed flashing a gun in the middle of the street.
Numerous officers from District C-11 (Dorchester) immediately responded to the area and some detectives in an unmarked car located a black male matching the suspect description near the intersection of Dudley St. and Columbia Road. The detectives, still in their car, approached the suspect and before they could say anything to him he exclaimed to them, “Hey !#%*, what the %?!$ are you looking at? The detectives in plain clothes directed the suspect to get out of the middle of the street and get on the sidewalk. While still standing in front of the detectives’ unmarked car, the suspect (presumably not knowing that the two individuals in the car were police officers) pulled up his Celtics shirt displaying a firearm and stated to officers, “I got something for you!”
The two detectives immediately exited their car and identified themselves as police officers and the suspect took off running. A lengthy foot pursuit followed during the suspect ran down several streets. During the foot pursuit, the suspect jumped onto the hood of an occupied police cruiser and pushed the door of the cruiser on an officer (attempting to get out and pursue him) causing the officer’s head to get slammed by the door. The suspect was caught shortly after pushing the door on the officer’s head and violently struggled after when officers apprehended him and removed a firearm from his waist.
The suspect, Ernest Fields, 24, of Boston was arrested and charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Possession of a Firearm with Obliterated Serial Numbers, Possession of a Large Capacity Firearm, Assault by Means of a Dangerous Weapon, Assault and Battery on a Police Officer and Resisting Arrest.
B&E Suspect Caught in the Act
Around 5:19PM yesterday, officers from District A-! (Downtown Boston) were on patrol when they observed an individual walking along Beacon St. toward Charles St. looking into parked cars.
Officers continued to watch the suspect as he walked and as he approached Charles St. they observed him reach into the car window of a parked car, unlock the door, remove several items from the car and take off running in the direction of Charles Street. Officers pursued the suspect and caught him after a short foot pursuit. Officers recovered from the suspect, a GPS system and all its accessories.
The suspect, Robert Dempsey, 40, of East Boston, was arrested and charged with Larceny from a Motor Vehicle. The victim later came to the district and identified and claimed his GPS.
Armed Robbery Doesn’t Pay
About 7:49PM on Sunday, August 16, 2009 responded to the intersection of Seaverns and Alveston St. for a report of armed robbery.
On arrival, officers spoke to the victim who reported that he was walking in the area of Alveston St. when he was approached by a person wielding a knife, described as a 15-17 year old male or female wearing a black baseball cap and a white t-shirt. The victim further elaborated that the suspect pointed the knife at him and said “Give me it all, give me it all, give me your money!” The victim then reported that he handed his wallet with his personal items to the suspect along with his I-Pod. According to the victim the suspect then fled the scene, and a short time later was observed coming out from beside a house on Alveston St., dressed in different attire.
Other officers arrived on scene, and spoke to several witnesses and one of them reported observing someone matching the suspect description running down the South West Corridor toward Forest Hills. Officers proceeded in the direction that they were told that the suspect had fled and found an individual matching the suspect description. Officers approached the suspect and as ked to speak to her for a moment and she immediately exclaimed, “Please don’t take me to jail.” The victim was brought to the scene and positively identified the suspect as the person who had robbed him.
A pat frisk was conducted of the suspect, and before officers could finish the pat frisk, the suspect directed officers to her pockets by stating “It’s all there, it’s all there!” In her pockets, officers found the credit cards belonging to the victim, the I-Pod along with the cash that had been stolen. The suspect told officers that she had left her backpack next to a house on Alveston St., the same house that the suspect had observed her coming from the side. Officers responded to that address and found the suspect’s backpack which contained the items that she had been wearing when she robbed the victim, along with the victim’s wallet.
The suspect, Ashley Weaver, 18, of Roxbury was arrested and charged with Armed Robbery. During the booking process, it was also learned that the suspect had an outstanding warrant for Unarmed Robbery.
