POLICE ARREST TWO FOR THE UNLAWFUL POSSESSION OF A FIREARM IN HYDE PARKAt about 1:45am, on Monday, July 27, 2009, officers from Area E18 (Hyde Park) responded to a radio call for a person with a gun in the area of 1184 Hyde Park Ave (the Hyde Park Pub). On arrival, officers spoke to witnesses who stated that a black male opened the pub door and yelled, “Wait ‘til you guys come out. I’m gonna shoot up the bar.” According to bar employees, the suspect was known to them because he had been barred from the establishment months earlier. Witnesses further stated that the suspect then entered a silver-colored Volvo and was seen circling the establishment. Officers promptly broadcast a description of the suspect and his motor vehicle over the police radio.
Approximately an hour later, officers observed a silver-colored Volvo travelling at a speed greater than reasonable along Fairmount Ave. Specifically, officers estimated that the motor vehicle was travelling in excess of 50 mph in an area where the speed limit was 35 mph. As a result of their observations, officers activated their emergency equipment (lights & sirens) in an effort to stop the motor vehicle. With the motor vehicle stopped, officers approached the motor vehicle.
Due to the severity of the earlier incident, officers instructed the operator, as well as, his front seat passenger to exit the motor vehicle. With both individuals out of the car, a search of the motor vehicle was conducted by an officer and his K-9.
In short time, the K-9 was able to detect the presence of either an explosive device or firearm. Officers were able to locate and take possession of a black firearm and two large capacity ammunition feeding devices. When both suspects were asked to produce a license to carry, both were unable to do so.
Officers arrested Freddy Jean, 26, of Boston and Andrew Driscoll, 22, of Marlborough and charged both with the Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and Ammunition.
