DAILY INCIDENTS FOR MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 15, 2008

Shots Fired Results in Suspect Apprehension and Firearm RecoveryOn Friday, September 12, 2008 around 8:34AM, officers from district B-2 (Roxbury) responded to 6 Castlegate Rd. in Dorchester for a call for shots fired.
On arrival, officers spoke to the victim who directed them to a bullet hole in her infant child’s bedroom. Officers inspected the bullet hole in the hole and formed the opinion that the bullet had been fired from an adjoining apartment. Officers then went to the adjoining apartment to conduct a protective sweep to ensure that no one in that apartment had been hit by gunfire but no one was found. The adjoining apartment was then frozen pending the issuance of a search warrant.
Around 4:00PM on Friday, Sept. 12, 2008, detectives from District B-2 executed a search warrant at the adjoining apartment of the victim after having secured a search warrant from Dorchester District Court. Pursuant to the execution of the search warrant, officers located and recovered 1) an assault pistol, 2) a rifle, and 3) numerous round of ammunition. As a result of the items recovered and seized, and ongoing investigation officers sought and received a warrant for James Williams, 24, of Dorchester charging him with Assault by Means of a Dangerous Weapon, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition and Discharging a Firearm within 500’ of a Dwelling.
Yesterday, Sunday, September 14, 2008, officers from District B-2 successfully arrested suspect, James Williams on the above outstanding warrant while he was at 6 Castlegate Road in Dorchester. The suspect will be arraigned today, September 15, 2008 at Roxbury District Court.
OUI Driver Seeks Refuge Behind Bushes
This morning around 1:42Am, officers from District B-3 (Dorchester) arrested suspect, Steven Scully, 55, of North Attleboro and charged him with Operating Under the Influence of Alcohol.
Officers initially responded to the to 82 American legion Highway for a motor vehicle accident and on arrival, observed several tire marks from the street leading to a car parked on the curb. Officers noted that both airbags in the parked had been deployed and that there were no occupants in the car. Officers then spoke to several witnesses who told that the operator of the car had run into 80 American Legion Highway. Officers went over to the area and observed an individual matching the driver’s description hiding behind a large bush and a wall. The suspect was returned to the scene of the accident and while he was being walked back t o the scene, officers noted that he had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath, was unsteady on his feet, had slurred speech and had glassy eyes. The suspect when questioned as to whether or not he owned the car answered affirmatively and told officers that he had consumed several drinks in Hyde Park.
Officers based on their interaction with the suspect formed the opinion the opinion that the suspect had been driving under the influence of alcohol. The suspect refused participation in Field Sobriety Tests and was subsequently placed under arrest and charged accordingly.
Need for Fresh Breath Lands Shoplifting Suspect in Jail
This morning around 7:25AM, officers from District B-2 (Roxbury) were on patrol in the area of warren St. and Quincy St. near the Walgreen’s Pharmacy when they observed a male running from the front door of Walgreen’s pursued by store employees. The suspect fled into the street in the way of oncoming traffic causing a hazard in his attempt to escape capture.
Officers immediately joined the pursuit and observed the suspect run into the back yard of a nearby house and remove his top layer of clothing in an attempt to change his appearance. Officers were able to secure and place the suspect under arrest within a short time and returned to the scene to gather information from the store employees. Officers spoke to store employees who reported that the suspect walked in the store, went to the candy aisle and started stuffing his pockets. The suspect, when approached by store employees, fled the store with the stolen items in his pockets. Officers recovered the jacket that the suspect had attempted to discard and recovered six 3-pack of Wrigley Orbit Spearmint gum, five 10-pack of Wrigley Juicy Fruit gum, and five 10-pack of Wrigley Doublemint gum.
The suspect, Dale A. Mason, 51, of Mattapan was arrested and charged with Shoplifting, Disorderly Conduct, Providing a False Name at the Booking, and an outstanding warrant for Shoplifting and Possession of Class D.
