Scam Artist Arrested for Apartment ScamYesterday afternoon around 1:30PM, detectives from District E-13 (Jamaica Plain) arrested suspect, Carmelo Torres, 44, of Roslindale and charged him a warrant for Larceny Over by Way of False Pretense.
Officers initially received a call from one of the suspect’s victims who observed him cutting the grass at 124 Glendower Street. Officers responded to the above location and there indeed found the suspect cutting the grass there. Officer confirmed the suspect’s identification and placed him under arrest for several outstanding warrants.
The suspect has been involved in a scam in which he takes deposits for an apartment from victims and never furnishes victims an apartment nor returns their deposit.
Stolen Car Suspect Arrested
At approximately 9:33PM last night, Wednesday, September 3, 2008, officers from District B-3 (Mattapan) were on patrol in the area of Messinger St. in Mattapan when they performed a random registration inquiry of a passing car on the cruiser Mobile Data Terminal.
The query revealed that the car had been reported stolen on August 20, 2008. Officers turned around after learning this information in order to perform a car stop. Before officers could conduct a traffic stop, the car came to a stop in front of 72 Messinger Street. The operator, Andrew Atkins, 30, of Dorchester was then placed under arrest and charged with Receiving a Stolen Motor Vehicle, and subsequently charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended License when his license status was determined.
Shooting Suspect Caught with “Hot Gun”
Last night around 11:24PM, officers from District B-3 (Mattapan) responded to a call for shots fired at 1 Woodale Ave in Mattapan.
En route, officers were advised that the two suspect, a black male wearing a white hat and possibly a black shirt and another possibly wearing a striped shirt were riding bicycles toward Morton Street. As officers were responding to the scene of the incident, they observed two individuals riding bicycles in the area of Morton Village who matched he given description of the suspects. Officers immediately stopped their cruiser and ordered the suspects to stop. The suspects initially attempted to ride past officers until officers blocked their escape route. Due to the nature of the call and the fact that the suspects matched the description of the shooting suspects, officers performed a pat frisk of the suspects upon stopping them. During a pat frisk of one of the suspects, officers immediately felt a hard object consistent with a gun in the suspect’s pocket that was still warm to the touch. Believing that the suspect was armed, officers handcuffed him for their safety and removed a firearm from his pocket hat had been fired to lock back. Both suspects were secured while officers returned to the scene of the crime.
At the scene of the crime, officers recovered ballistic evidence and spoke to victims and witnesses. One victim reported hearing who reported a stone his bedroom window and shortly thereafter heard a number of shots fired in rapid succession at his house. Officers found evidence that several shots had been fired at the victim’s house.
The two suspects were placed under arrest with suspect, Patrick Lys, 21, of Mattapan was arrested and charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Assault by Means of a Dangerous Weapon, Discharging a Firearm within 500’ of a Dwelling and Second and Subsequent Possession of a Firearm, and suspect, Antoine Seymour, 18, of Mattapan was arrested and charged with Possession of Class D.
